Types Of Convergences
The Indy Convergence includes these three different types of Convergences:
Workshops
A place to share what you know with Convergence participants and members of the community
They are a place to take risks -to teach your fellow Converging artists something unusual, to try something you've always wanted to try but never had the chance to.
Part of our philosophy is that artists have knowledge to share with each other- that a painter has something to learn from an exploration of dance, for example, or a dancer from an exploration of painting. We ask all participants to lead or co-lead a workshop in which artists of all kinds and members of the Indianapolis community will be able to participate.
Side Projects/Open Studio
What keeps you up at night?
SIDE PROJECTS
Side projects are small projects involving memebers of the Convergence or memebers of the Indianpolis community. This portion of the Convergence exists for artists to pursue that project that always slipped through the cracks. The play that was never finished or the perfromance art piece that never came together . This is where we really want to know, what keeps you up at night?
Artists are welcome to participate in as many Side projects as they choose. If desired these projects will be presented in a final showing at the conclusion of the Convergence. Keep in mind that the presentation is not a formal show, but a place for us to share what we have learned as a group over two-weeks.
These projects can be genre specific or cross-disciplinary.
OPEN STUDIO
Open studio space will also be available upon request for those artists wanting to work alone on a personal project. The space will be either in a studio conducsive to dancing (sprung floor) or in the Wheeler Theatre. These more personal projects may be expanded into Side Projects over the course of the two weeks and presented in the final showing as well.
Umbrella Project
A project that draws on the strengths of all participating artists
Each Convergence has an Umbrella Project - a large exploration of a shared theme that all the artists can participate in. The Umbrella Projects will rehearse in the evenings.
We ask all the converging artists to participate in the Umbrella Project, no matter what their background. Leaders of the Umbrella Projects are mindful of incorporating all the different artists' skills into the work. Please check back in autumn 2008 for information on the 2009 Umbrella Project.
