THE EARLY STAGES
Robert Negron, Caitlin Swihart and Dara Weinberg met while all three were at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the summer of 2007, as an actor, a dancer, and an assistant director respectively, living less than 100 feet away from each other on Ashland's scenic 4th Street. After collaborating on several different projects with one another, including improvised choruses (Dara) modern dance (Caitlin) and Robert's processes adapting the book of INTO THE WILD and writing music with his band, Daisy's Country Copulatives, the three of them realized they had a lot of interesting ideas to share with one another. (To say the least.)
Wanting to maintain Ashland's spirit of many different artists coming together from all around the country to work together, and also wanting to keep in touch, they decided to start the Convergence - so that no matter where their freelance lives took them, they would try to come together once a year to collaborate on new projects.
They wanted to create an environment where it was safe to experiment.
They decided, over several teleconferences, that it would be best to have both an Umbrella Project each year, and also room for each participating artist to initiate their own Side Project. They also wanted to share their work with the community.
In November 2007, they met in Indianapolis, finalized the dates and location for the first Convergence (February 2008), and started this Wiki.
